Volunteer - Training

StretcherThe training and experience you will receive as a volunteer with VICSES Bellarine Unit will help you develop skills in leadership, communication, problem solving and teamwork - all of which are highly valued amongst employers.

Unit Training

VICSES Bellarine Unit trains throughout the year on Thursday nights with a months break or so over the December/January period.  Training starts at 7pm and usually runs for two hours depending on the activity invovled.

To be an operational member it is a mandatory requirement that at least 60% of training sessions are attended. This is so that skills can be kept current and members can operate safely when they respond to requests for assistance.

Training Courses

In addition to regular training at the unit there is also the opportunity for unit members to attend specialised training courses. There is a course available to suit just about anybody's interest from chainsaw operation, finance, four wheel drive operator, general rescue, map and navigation, media liaison, safe working at heights system, storm and water damage operations, road rescue, and many others.

These training courses are optional and are usually run within the Geelong/Barwon region on weekends whilst a few of the courses are run within the Unit. Many of these courses are nationally recognised and once successfully completed, members will receive a certificate recognising that they have obtained the relevant competency.
